Moventor Inc., a business specializing in runway friction measurement, has during its history provided products and services to all of the biggest airports in the world. Mikko Kallio, the CEO at Moventor comments that what explains the success story that has developed for over a decade, is quality engineering and world-class customer service.

“We have always put a lot of effort into customer satisfaction and quality. This is a good long-term strategy in the aviation industry. A customer-first approach has kept our retention very high and we get new clients regularly due to our good reputation”, Mr. Kallio comments.

The company’s strategy has been to create stable growth through partnerships and patience over the years with demanding customers. Good strategy, hard work, and experience have helped Moventor to close new partnerships. The most recent project is to digitize Greenland’s airports’ runway reporting with Moventor’s GRF (Global Reporting Format) software called GRR (Global Runway Reporting).

The partnership has been formed with Greeland’s airport authority Mittarfeqarfiit, that’s owned by the government. The company controls all of Greeland’s 13 airports, including almost 50 helipads. Employing nearly 400 people, Mittarfeqarfiit is one of the biggest employers of Greenland. Now the GRR software is in use at 58 airports around the world.

“Mittarfeqarfiit / Greenland Airports has used Moventor equipment for a number of years. Throughout the years, we have always had a good, fast and efficient collaboration with the company. In connection with the requirements specifications for software for GRF, Mittarfeqarfiit emphasized that reliability and support as being very important parameters. During the demonstration of software, it was also clear that the developers had both broad and detailed knowledge of aircraft operations during winter at different sizes of airports. This is both in terms of the needs of a modern flight crew and the tasks and reporting obligations that an airport’s runway inspectors and snow removal staff has to deliver. The product is flexible and can handle various national and international standards, such as EASA and ICAO standards.
The contact with the developers, combined with documented knowledge and experience of aviation under Arctic conditions, led Mittarfeqarfiit to choose Moventor as the supplier of the GRF software”, Chief Operation Officer Niels Grosen from Mittarfeqarfiit comments.

Moventor’s GRR software makes every takeoff and landing safer according to all international standards. The software can also utilize vehicle-integrated friction measurement equipment provided by Moventor to measure the level of friction of the runway, which supports the runway inspectors’ work. The collected information is then forwarded to the control tower, and from there to the individual planes’ crews. In this way, Moventor makes the most critical phases of any flight safer than ever, especially in harsh weather conditions such as those in the Arctic.

The GRR software comes in a web-based format and a mobile application. The mobile application can be directly accessed from the friction measurement vehicle’s drivers seat. This makes friction measurement more effortless and comfortable than it has ever been.

Moventor has a bright future

Although the aviation industry has been in turmoil in the past few years, Mr. Mikko Kallio is optimistic about the company’s future.

“There’s already light at the end of the tunnel. Recovery surely will take years, but our business survives due to its global operations that alleviate risks and support growth even during trying times. A busy first quarter and big partnerships such as those with Greenland’s airports are a positive signal of the coming months.”

Ylöjärveläinen Moventor Oy on yli kymmenen vuoden historiansa aikana tarjonnut tuotteitaan ja palveluitaan kaikille maailman isoimmille lentokentille. Kumppanuus on sovittu Grönlannin lentokenttien hallinnointiyhtiön Mittarfeqarfiitin kanssa. Valtion omistama yhtiö Mittarfeqarfiit hallinnoi Grönlannin 13:sta lentokenttää sekä lähes viittäkymmentä helikopterikenttää. Mittarfeqarfiitin lähes 400 työntekijää tekevät siitä yhden maan merkittävimmistä työllistäjistä. Yhtiö on verrattavissa Suomen Finaviaan. Kun laskemme mukaan Grönlannin lentoasemat, on Moventorin GRR ohjelmisto käytössä jo 58:lla lentoasemalla ympäri maailman.

“Mittarfeqarfiit on käyttänyt Moventorin kalustoa vuosikausia. Yhteistyö on aina ollut hyvää ja tehokasta. Kitkanmittauksessa meille oli erityisen tärkeää, että kitkanmittauksessa käytettävä kalusto ja ohjelmisto on luotettavaa ja käyttäjätukeen saa pääsyn helposti. Jo tarjousvaiheessa oli selvää, että Moventorilla oli laaja ja yksityiskohtainen ymmärrys lentokoneiden operoimisesta talviolosuhteissa erikokoisilla lentokentillä. Ymmärrystä löytyi sekä modernin lentomiehistön tarpeista ja lentokentän tehtävistä että kiitoteiden tarkastushenkilöstön ja lumenpoistohenkilöstön raportointivaatimuksista. GRR-ohjelmisto on joustava ja pystyy toimimaan useiden maakohtaisten ja globaalien standardien puitteissa. Aktiivinen yhteydenpito yhdistettynä kattavaan dokumentaatioon ja kokemukseen lentokentän operoinnista arktisissa oloissa teki Moventorista parhaan kumppanin meille”, toteaa Grönlannin Mittarfeqarfiitin operatiivinen johtaja Niels Grosen.

Moventorin GRR-ohjelmisto tekee lentokenttien kiitotietarkastuksesta varmaa ja turvallista, sekä kansainvälisten asetusten kanssa yhteensopivaa. Ohjelmisto hyödyntää myös Moventorin tuottamaa autoihin kiinnitettävää kitkanmittauslaitteistoa, josta ohjelmisto saa tietoa kiitotien liukkaudesta. Nämä tiedot välitetään lentokoneiden ohjaamoihin. Lisäksi ohjelmisto auttaa varmistamaan, että kiitotietarkastukset tehdään ajallaan. Näin koko Moventorin tuotesarja tekee jokaisesta lennosta merkittävästi turvallisemman varmistamalla, että lennon kriittisimmät osiot, eli lähtö ja laskeutuminen sujuvat mutkattomasti kiitotieolot huomioon ottaen.

GRR-ohjelmistosta on saatavilla nettipohjainen ja mobiilipohjainen versio. Mobiilipohjainen versio voidaan lisätä suoraan mittausauton ohjaamoon. Tämä tekee kitkanmittauksesta mukavan ja vaivattoman kokemuksen ennennäkemättömällä tavalla.

Moventorin tulevaisuus on kirkas

Vaikka ilmailuala, ei ole viimevuosina päässyt helpolla, Kallio on optimistinen yhtiön tulevaisuudesta

“Selvää piristymistä on näköpiirissä. Palautuminen kestää varmasti vuosia, mutta yritystämme auttaa globaali pelikenttä, joka hajauttaa riskiä ja tukee kasvua myös vaikeimpina aikoina. Vilkas alkuvuosi ja Grönlannin kaltaiset isot kumppanuudet tuovat positiivista näkymää lähiajoille”, toteaa Kallio.
