Runway weather stations

Sensors for Safer and Smarter Runway Operations

Moventor’s range of advanced sensors delivers the critical data airports need for accurate runway condition reporting and proactive decision-making – fully aligned with ICAO’s Global Reporting Format (GRF). By integrating these solutions into your operations, you can ensure maximum safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness, even in the most challenging weather conditions.

Solutions include mobile sensors as well as weather stations monitoring the runway conditions in real time.

Contaminant SensorContaminant and water depth sensor to measure contaminant type and depth from surface. Also with Surface Temperature sensor.

Our high-precision contaminant sensor continuously monitors runway surface conditions, detecting dry, wet, snow, slush, ice, and standing water with exceptional accuracy. This objective, real-time data supports inspectors in determining the correct Runway Condition Code (RWYCC) and helps identify slippery conditions before they become a safety hazard. The result: more accurate reporting, improved operational safety, and optimized runway maintenance actions.

Surface Temperature Sensor

Surface temperature is a critical factor in determining runway safety – especially in borderline conditions where ice may form unexpectedly. Our surface temperature sensor provides continuous, precise readings to support both operational and maintenance decisions.

Weather Stations (Partner Solutions)

Through our trusted partners, we offer full-scale weather station integrations that give your operations team a complete environmental overview. From wind speed and direction to precipitation intensity and air temperature, this data can be combined with friction and contaminant measurements for a truly comprehensive runway status picture.  And most importantly, get alerted when weather changes suddenly!

Contaminant measurement from runway

Contaminant sensors

  • Objective, repeatable surface condition data – even in low-visibility conditions

  • Optimized timing for de-icing and snow removal, reducing chemical use and costs

  • Better safety margins for take-offs and landings

Surface Temperature

  • Early detection of freezing conditions, enabling proactive de-icing

  • Accurate temperature data to support contaminant sensor readings

  • Reduced operational risk during temperature fluctuations around 0°C

Weather Stations

  • Centralized, real-time weather intelligence for the entire airfield

  • Enhanced prediction of hazardous conditions

  • Informed, data-driven maintenance and operational planning

The Global Runway Reporter is fully compliant with ICAO Global Reporting Format (GRF). Software is capable for adapting to local needs and supports ICAO, EASA, FAA and other national SNOWTAM and ATIS syntaxes. Output formats are agreed with the customers and include possibility to AIXM compatibility with communication to Eurocontrol.
